MXR ZW-44 ZAKK WYLDE OVERDRIVE.
Whether on his groundbreaking work with Ozzy Osbourne or with his own
Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde's guitar playing is loud, tough, and
relentless. Zakk's take-no-prisoners attitude extends to his quest for
tone, too. When he wanted to develop his signature overdrive pedal, he
looked no further than Dunlop. The result is the new Wylde Overdrive.
This muscular stompbox will turn your clean amp into a heavy, chunky
crunch machine. Or, use it like Zakk does and kick it in front of a
dirty amp for a screaming, sustaining lead tone.
The three simple controls: Output, Tone, and Drivemake getting up and
running easy, so you can concentrate on the business at hand: kicking
major ass.

This is a great pedal to put in front of an amp. Don't be a dumb ass and give it a bad review because it doesn't sound
like your old Tube Screamer. This pedal is in the DOD 250 category for
me. A great pedal to use in front of an already dirty amp. It even
works with a clean/dirty tone.

- Can you get the sound of your favorite artists? Who are they?
- Are certain effects (distortion, chorus, ...) very good? Very bad?
- What setup (i.e. what guitars and amps) are you using this with?
- Is it noisy? On what settings?
- Are the effects weak or do they always sound great?
- What amp are you using it with?
I originally bought this pedal to do what most people who own it do,
which is to boost an already overdiven amp. It does that well, but I
have discovered lately that this pedal sounds incredible in front of a
clean amp. With the gain cranked all the way up, this pedal puts out a
killer plexi sound that is nice and focused without being harsh. It is
super quiet, and has a nice flexible EQ.

You can absolutely get the Zakk sound with a high gain tube amp
(Marshall) and a Gibson. Without these components, it does not give a
shortcut to the Wylde sound. I put the distortion of my amp on about 65%, the Wylde gives only about
25% and that is plenty crunchy enough. I also enjoy backing the
distortion down to about 5% for a smoother less in your face sustain.
