MAXON CS-9 PRO STEREO ANALOG CHORUS.
The CS-9 Stereo Chorus Pro
offers dramatic improvements over the original CS-9. In addition to
Rate and Depth controls, the CS-9 Pro features Delay Time and Dry Blend
controls for limitless tonal options. Improved construction including
through-hole, glass reinforced epoxy PCB's, snap-in PCB connectors, and
true bypass switching guarantee trouble free performance while the
combination of one Panasonic MN3207 BBD IC and one Signetics NE570
compander provides warm yet crystal-clear chorus with zero clock noise.
The CS-9 Pro offers an entire range of classic and unique new
chorusing effects. With circuitry based around the Panasonic MN3207
(low voltage BBD IC, now out of production), the CS-9 Pro's Rate and
Depth control can conjure every chorus texture from subtle to severe.
The custom-tuned oscillator circuit can provide enough speed to
authentically imitate rotary speaker cabinets and just the right amount
of modulation for a lush vibrato that won't leave you feeling seasick.
The
real secret behind the CS-9 Pro's amazing tone lies in the Delay Time
control. The Delay Time control exhibits an inverse relation between
the delay time and the frequency shift of the chorus - as the delay
time increases, the frequency that is shifted decreases. This inverse
relation creates "double level" and "cancellation" peaks and notches at
particular frequency points to create an amazingly realistic,
three-dimensional chorus effect. In addition, the Delay Time control is
interactive with the Rate and Depth controls, so that if you increase
the Depth, the Delay Time range increases, and if you increase the
Speed, the Delay Time changes faster.
For even more
versatility, the CS550 features a front-mounted Dry Blend control that
determines the level of effected signal vs. dry signal, making the CS-9
Pro perfect for use with Bass Guitar as well. True stereo outputs allow
for mono, stereo, or inverted mono (90 degrees out of phase) signal
routing. The CS-9 Pro's performance is kept exceptionally quiet thanks
to a Signetics #NE570 compander and true bypass switching using a 4PDT
mechanical switch.

HARMONY CENTRAL USER REVIEWS:
Sound Quality: 9 I've
lined this pedal up against, a tc electronics stereo chorus, a boss
super chorus(too noisy for me and papery sounding) a fulltone
choralflange, and this one is the one Im going to keep. Its tone is the
thickest without being overly warm, maintains airyness along with girth
for lack of better word. Ease back on the blend knob and you get
transparency as well. The delay time knob is very nice and realy does
ad more for versatality when backed off and on, balane this out with
the width and you get two largely distinct chorus flavors, probably the
final selling factor for me along with its lush all around tone. This
is a lush stomp box for sure!
Reliability: 10 Maxon
9-Series pedals are the most solid built pedals I have ever used. True
Bypass... MUST HAVE. I know people over-exaggerate true bypass, but
honestly going all TB with my pedal board made an enormous difference!
I will never go back.
Sound Quality: 10 Beautiful.
It's gorgeous. It is so gorgeous, it's intimidating. I run this chorus
into one amp and leave the other dry. The delay time setting creates a
wonderful, blooming stereo effect. One company calls its chorus the
compound to create water. No comparison. None. Not in my book. This is
what water would sound like if it could flow in waves through the air.
It is subtle to outrageous. It is surprising when its forgotten and ON.
It is obvious when engaged at other times. The blend function is nice.
I've tried it in stereo. Seems to work nicely.
Sound Quality: 10 This
is simply the best sounding ANALOG chorus that I've ever heard. Warm,
shimmery, and with a wide range of effects. You can get a beautiful,
basic chorus sound, but you can also max out the speed knob for
tremelo, and if you max out all the knobs, you get space-noises that
almost sound like insane harmony (major seconds!) Like all choruses, it
adds just a bit of midrange, but it colors the guitar tone far less
than other choruses I've tried. And the unit is very quiet; there's no
noise. Most of all it has LIFE to it.
