CARL MARTIN BOOST KICK.

The Carl Martin Boost Kick is a 9V-battery-powered pedal designed to provide up to 12dB of boost to give that extra "kick" required for a great solo.

The level control determines the boost level. The 3 band EQ section is comprised of Punch (bass), Attack (mid) and Edge (treble).

This allows a virtually unlimited range of solo sounds without compromising sonic quality.

Getting your solos to cut through the cacophony of the band can be a handful. With up to 12dB boost and the 3 band EQ at your feet, hitting the right sound at the right level is a breeze.

The Carl Martin Boost Kick is true bypass and features an AC adapter jack.

Sound Quality: 10

The Boost Kick is very quiet. There is no detectable colouring of the original tone, when it's not in use. And it sounds excellent. The three filters seem to operate over a large band width, because the cut/boost effects in all three areas are very soft and smooth. It's temping to play with the effect on all the time even with the boost level set to match your original signal, because tones seem better, more lively, and more dynamic. The only potential problem is getting a sound that will work well for boosting clean tones as well as distorted ones. It has taken a bit of adjustment on the distortion pedals' tone controls to get all the sounds going. As far as emulating other players' tones: For a pedal that is just a warm sounding EQ/booster, you can get a large number of tones, from a dark, jazzy texture through a Marvin-esque soft twang to Nile Rodgers' raspy, trebly strat rhythms.

Sound Quality: 10

In regard to transparancy, its excellent. It has a true by-pass and the transition of the parameter you dial in are very smooth. You can't get a bad sound out of it. I play rock and blues mainly and it suits my style very much. My Tube Screamer TS-9 is now put aside in my drawer.

Reliability: 10

I used it for a year and encountered no problem. I think it must be good because the electronic components inside are the best I've seen so far in my stompboxes collection.

Sound Quality: 10

I use decent quality gear, and the main thing for me about this pedal is that it doesn't colour my sound beyond all recognition. Don't get me wrong, I love my sound without this pedal, but slapping it on when soloing really brings things alive. It's great for pushing cleans a tad harder, but it really sings when pushing a tube amp. It's sometimes tempting to leave it on all the time, but the effect when used sparingly is startling every time. I love it, and would never be without it.
